EXP 101 Exploring @ Illinois credit: 1 or 2 Hours.
An introduction to the opportunities and resources available to “Undeclared” students in the Division of Exploratory Studies. The primary goal of this course is to assist students with the transition to college life at Illinois with a focus on understanding and navigating the major selection process. Through participation in this course, students will learn about university resources, the major exploration process, and what it means to be a successful student at Illinois. Prerequisite: Restricted to first-semester Freshman or Transfer students in the Division of Exploratory Studies.
EXP 110 Future Ready Toolkit credit: 1 Hour.
This seminar, part of the EXP Enrichment Experience Program, supports first-year students in purposeful career exploration and hands-on skill development. Students will discover how their strengths, interests, and values shape career direction and connect major selection to transferable skills. Emphasizing decision-making strategies, the course builds confidence in academic and career choices. Through experiential activities and campus engagement, students will develop a personalized toolkit to guide major declaration, internships, career readiness, and professional goals. Prerequisite: Restricted to first-year students in the Division of Exploratory Studies Enrichment Experience Program.
EXP 150 James Scholars Foundations: Navigating Your First Semester in Honors credit: 1 Hour.
This course is tailored for students new to the Division of Exploratory Studies (EXP) James Scholars program. It offers a dynamic introduction to the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences associated with being part of the University of Illinois Honors Community. Participants will actively explore resources, expectations, and connections designed to support academic and personal success both inside and outside the classroom. Prerequisite: Restricted to James Scholars in the Division of Exploratory Studies.
EXP 198 Exploratory Honors Open Seminar credit: 0 to 3 Hours.
A changing array of courses focusing on special topics in the Exploratory Studies James Scholar Program. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 hours if topics vary. Prerequisite: Restricted to students in the Exploratory Studies James Scholars program with a 1055 attribute.
EXP 199 Exploratory Studies Open Seminar credit: 0 to 5 Hours.
A changing array of courses focusing on special topics in Exploratory Studies. Approved for Letter and S/U grading. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 hours if topics vary.
EXP 299 Exploratory Study Abroad credit: 0 to 18 Hours.
Provides credit toward the undergraduate degree for study at accredited foreign institutions or approved for overseas programs. Final determination of credit is made upon the student’s completion of the work. (Summer session, 0 to 8 hours). Approved for Letter and S/U grading. May be repeated in separate terms to a maximum of 44 hours, all of which must be earned within one calendar year. Prerequisite: One year of residence at UIUC, good academic standing, and prior approval of the Division of Exploratory Studies.
