The Illinois Department of Health and Kinesiology offers highly customizable graduate programs in Kinesiology designed for students seeking both scientific rigor and academic flexibility. Students pursue an advanced program of study to prepare for careers in research, teaching, and industry.
In the joint PhD-MPH program, up to 12 hours of coursework may be applied to both degrees, and the degrees are conferred simultaneously at the completion of the program.
The PhD in Kinesiology at Illinois prepares students for academic and research careers that will enable them to find solutions to the health-related problems facing our society today and into the future. Students focus their studies in one of six major areas of concentration, allowing them to do work that is important to them. Our program trains future community health researchers and practitioners as they address some of our greatest challenges.

Our accredited Master of Public Health (MPH) provides training in the foundational principles of public health with a concentration in Health Behavior and Promotion or Physical Activity and Health. All students in the program gain hands-on experience in real-world public health settings, preparing them for successful careers after graduation.

The M.P.H. can be earned jointly with the Kinesiology, Ph.D. In the joint program up to 12 hours of coursework may be applied to both degrees, and the degrees are conferred simultaneously at the completion of the program.
